O Dourado no Escuro

Start Date: November 2021

Project Length: 3 months

Team Size: 3 members

My Role: Animation, Character Design, Scene Design, Post-Production (mainly for the ship graveyard and crystal cave)

Used Tools: Clip Studio Paint, Photoshop, After Effects, Adobe Premiere

Synopsis: This animation follows a fish desperately trying to escape a mysterious dark mass that seems to consume the surrounding ocean. As the fish navigates various environments and encounters different creatures, the darkness relentlessly pursues it. Ultimately, the fish is captured, revealing that the "darkness" was in fact a rowing boat attempting to catch it. The story combines suspense, visual metaphors, and dynamic underwater action to create an engaging visual narrative.

Description: Created as part of an internship at Canal 180, this project blended animation with music to depict visually compelling scenarios aligned with each song. The project was a collaborative effort between three animators, each responsible for specific sequences. I designed and animated the boat, graveyard and the crystal cave parts of the short film, from scenarios to the animals within them. I also contributed to the beach scene and the lava biome animatic.

My favorite moments were the dynamic opening shots of each scene, particularly the panoramic corridor of the boat cemetery and the fish’s distorted movements past the crystal in the cave entrance. Sound design was straightforward, aligning specific musical styles to their corresponding environments, such as electronic music for the crystal cave, enhancing the immersive experience.
