My Role: Programming the site
Used Tools: Visual Studio Code // html and JavaScript
Synopsis: In EnCrypted, players assume the role of a detective investigating the world's hidden cryptids from a lookout house. Using various tools and vantage points, you observe the outside environment to spot these elusive creatures. Each discovered cryptid automatically generates a profile file on the in-game computer, detailing its characteristics. Ther is also a secret file that can only be unlocked by locating a randomly generated code near the door. Meanwhile, a mysterious dark figure prowls outside, opening the front door for him risks losing all collected cryptid data. Unlocking the secret file reveals that the dark figure is a survivor gnome from the previous project, Gnome Hunters, connecting the lore across projects.
Description: EnCrypted allowed me to explore interactive storytelling in a web-based environment. I programmed the computer interface, designed the cryptid files, and structured the house’s interactive layout to make the exploration engaging. The game also incorporates the secret file / gnome. Players must manage risk, as opening the front door to a dark figure can erase all progress, but you need that to get the password to it's file.
Developing this project involved balancing visual design, interface usability, and narrative consistency. My favorite part was crafting the computer interface and cryptid files. It allowed me to blend coding with creative storytelling. If revisited, I would refine the interface interactions, improve video rendering quality, and expand the cryptid lore for a richer, more immersive experience.
